Technology companies are creating a standard for crypto payments for AI

Major technology and financial companies have begun to form a new standard for digital payments for artificial intelligence systems. As part of the initiative, a fund is being created at the Linux Foundation that will develop the x402 protocol - a solution for automatic calculations between programs.

The project is aimed at creating an infrastructure where AI agents can independently pay for access to APIs, data, and computing resources. Such operations will take place without human intervention using cryptocurrency technologies.

The initiative has already received support from a number of large companies, including representatives of the technology sector and cloud platforms. In total, about 20 participants have joined the project, which underscores the high interest in the development of a new model of the digital economy.

The development of the x402 standard could be an important step towards the formation of the so-called "machine economy", where software systems can interact with each other directly, including financial operations.

Competition for the creation of a universal standard in this area is intensifying, and it is precisely the support from the ecosystem that can determine which solution will become the basis for future digital interactions between AI and services
