The Polish cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto, previously reported to have lost access to a wallet with 4,503 BTC, is at the center of a new investigation. According to available information, the platform may be under the control of an organized criminal group that acquired a stake in the company back in 2018.
It is reported that at that time the exchange operated under the name BitBay. After changing owners, the platform underwent rebranding and became known as Zondacrypto, continuing to operate in the crypto market.
As part of the investigation, the company's financial transactions are also being examined. According to the investigation, about 18 million euros were transferred from the exchange's accounts to another platform, raising additional questions from law enforcement agencies.
The prosecutor's office has initiated a criminal case related to possible fraud and money laundering. Preliminary estimates suggest that the exchange's activities could have affected tens of thousands of users.
The situation heightens attention to issues of transparency and safety on cryptocurrency platforms. Such cases underline the importance of choosing reliable services and controlling operations with digital assets.
